an unbending definition of the world to the living and the non–living?
look at all the objects around you, and observe how they are embedded in space, by gravity and density. unravel them from their meaning, speculate about their consistency. think about their history and other spaces they were once part of. then, give them a voice.
and I don’t mean just a sound that they would produce if they fell or were dismantled. remember the moment they became a part of your life. induce them with memory. define them with everything which is non–obvious about them. feed them with time, and moments and interactions piling up in fractal eddies. is there a glimpse of spirit in those objects? can they be spiritualised? is anything artificially made truly dead? is there anything living truly infinite? listen through the solids, and allow the boundaries to disappear.

Marco Paltrinieri is a Milan-based visual artist, experimental musician, educator, and founding member of the visual research collective Discipula (2011-2020), with which he exhibited internationally. He is also a member of LL, a new curatorial platform for artistic and cultural productions. His solo practice focuses on experimenting with sound and voice as tools for constructing narrative and imaginary forms to explore the relationship between psyche and reality. He teaches visual culture at CFP Bauer in Milan and at LABA in Brescia, Italy.

This track was composed using voice samples from a Godard movie that quotes Wittgenstein, one of João’s favorite philosophers. Additionally, he programmed an FM synth on Max to complement the piece. Clear islands in the distance gradually transform into blurry specks. A person nearby speaks, but there is no sound—only a stop-motion picture of their mouth moving, conveying something meaningless. The sky spirals, turning from a crystal-clear visage to a cloudy swirl. The zenith Sun’s rays cut through white clouds, adhering to the skin like glue, impossible to wash off. The anchor drops, the boat's rocking ceases, the engine shuts off, and the psychophysical waves fade into nothingness. The memory of seasickness vanishes as quickly as it arrived, returning to a reality never truly left.
