Doopee Time reaches its apex at \"Someday That Place In Time,\" a languid ballad that encapsulates Caroline's heart-wrenching journey of longing and belonging. Upbeat drums and swinging hi hats dance over crying violins, punctuated by sweet conversations between our two protagonists. Most moments on Doopee Time can be seen as parodic, sarcastic, or immature. Tomita's sense of humor often overshadows attempts at sincerity, giving the album an unfortunate aura of novelty. But then you get around to 3 minutes into \"Someday..\" and a violin hits a gut wrenching peak, a baby-like squeal that embodies unmeasurable agony and desire. It feels like being curled up in the fetal position on the floor, shaking from the hyperthermia you caught from being soaked in a puddle of your own tears and drool. It’s heavy, powerful, and yes, sincere, and it makes you wonder if you’re happy with where you are, if you’ve ever experience true love, or if you’re just listening to the greatest encapsulation of love and loss that has ever been put to music. Yes, Tomita’s Doopee Time is funny, jovial, light, childish, silly. But then again, so is love. And sometimes, that’s the reason why it hurts so much.
