'Hail Mary Alchemist' is the electrifying debut from Minneapolis DJ and producer Daisy Hex, following a string of collaborative releases, internet radio mixes, and live performances over the past three years.
Building on the frenzied production first heard on "Shine", her 2022 EP with punk outfit Glam Toyota, "Alchemist" returns to Hex's club roots and emerges as the clearest vision yet for her signature blend of abrasive production and genre-smashing, visceral club beats. Across a wide sonic palette, tracks morph between techno, jungle, hardcore, trance and more in the blink of an eye, creating a roller coaster that always feels one step away from flying off the rails, yet commands your attention across the album's tight 40 minute runtime.
'Alchemist' also introduces Hex as a capable songwriter and vocalist, with tracks like "look at me outside" detailing the paranoia that follows a near-death experience, or "clock in" rallying club goers over white knuckled dance-fusion from Club SP33D label head zpectrum. Pop standout "fruity!" meanwhile, throws classic 90s garage, 00s bubblegum, jersey club and dariacore into a blender, with hypnotic results.
With it's fresh take on experimental club influences, 'Hail Mary Alchemist' stands out in a crowded EDM scene as something wholly unique, pulling listeners into a post-genre world with equal parts paranoia and euphoria.
