Off the back of The JLB’s compilation feature earlier this year, it only made sense to invite the serial bassmaker back for more. This time it’s a 2 track EP entitled ‘My Sound’ and as always it exceeds expectations (if we had any).
The JLB got the assignment and has put together a release that does what it says on the tin. Naturally a true TT style artist: taking his individuality and funneling it into this wonky 2-tracker which can only be described as his sound.
“Off the back of performances together at PG Party and the PC Music afterparty at The Lower Third, 'Up' is the debut collaboration between The JLB and MC TYSK (of Random Select). The track is fast, fidgety and features a relentlessly squidgy bass line throughout. The ad libs are a movie. If I had to describe the track visually, imagine the fictional character Noddy on really good pills and they start MCing to you.
While deviating slightly from the usual JLB style, 'My Sound' perfectly encapsulates my objective to create a musical experience not dissimilar to an uncanny seaside town attraction. The track is held together by a pulse of percussion sounds weaving between a bouncy FM bass. At times it even sounds like the music for a jungle level in a PS1 game. The vocal is inspired by Mike Millrain/DJ South Central and of course my love of Jamaican music which is at the heart of my musical being.”
In summary: a big homecoming destined to fry your USB, frazzle your brain or keep you up in the club way past your bedtime.
