The final release in a trilogy of guitar-based drone tapes that only became a 'sort of' trilogy because while working on Tornskadekirken 1-4, the first release(with Forlaget Kornmod), I read a 2014 NY Times article with Scott Walker about his Soused record with Sunn O))) where he said something about those gaps in between phrases. Gaps he would usually fill with silence, but now had the drones to fill in those spaces. That got me thinking about how that Kornmod tape very much used drones as a means to fill in a gap between phrases, and how that tape still very much was a studio recording - very processed, controlled, and very different (at least in the eventual output) from how it was sitting in a room making all the recordings. The idea was then for the second tape, The King of Memphis, to be a middle point between studio processing, overdubs and irl, physically present, 'raw' recordings of these drones, and finally The Great Desert -> no plan, no overdub, no processing just a couple hours in a room, one acoustic guitar, one electric, e-bows, feedback, slow detuning, couple of amps and a lot of microphones.
