Located in a grey zone between ambient, post-natural sound design and hi-tech sacred music, the first album from Milanese trio Cortex of Light, features two long compositions merging into one another without a specific beginning or end.
The sounds were originally conceived as original soundtrack for Francesco Tosini’s installation "Cielofuturo", produced and curated by Matta: a huge led wall laying on the ground of a XIII century church as a fountain of light projecting digital video-feedback experiments, L-systems and natural processes of growth and decay applied to the multitude of flowing pixels.
No field-recordings were thus used on the record, all the sounds are generated through DSPs with different synthesis techniques and taking advantage of specific tools for sound design, often based on algorithms imitating natural processes. A luminous aura arises spontaneously from this artificially generated ecosystem, while echoes of bells and plucks fade in the distance and clusters of clouded melodies float on a beam of light.
This release marks also the first collaboration between A.R.X. and Krisis Publishing that will evolve into a series of publications in physical format spanning from new adventurous excursions in the world of contemporary sound and art to forgotten treasures unearthed from the midst of time.
