My first impression upon discovering Musique Chienne is simply the word “expansive.” Upon further exploration, I discovered this lovely Joe Jackson Cover, and a Bandcamp page that shows 24 releases with friends and collaborators between Marseille, Montreal, NYC, and a vastly eclectic YouTube channel that starts with this video of mayonnaise jiggling at a festival from 2012 simply titled “Mayonnaise.”

Clearly, Musique Chienne has a rich, expansive cinematic universe. However, today’s staff pick Intérier Jour is an intimate, personal snapshot of this eclectic body of work. Literally translating to “Inside Day,” the record is languid, simple, and oddly compelling. The songs are short, bite-sized gestures of their potential, which in their simplicity, become exactly that. The tracks wiggle through unstable loops with exploratory pokes and prods, occasionally asserting their intention with confident, mature, and frankly, European chords.

Intérieur Jour has an unexpected familiarity that casually urges you to let it play through, repetitive timbres becoming known and comforting. Musique Chienne is in the room with you right now.
