1. Where are you based?
Manhattan, NY but b4 is international ~
2. Can you describe your label mix?
It’s a mixture of the sounds that shaped b4 when it first started 5 years ago into a preview of what's to come.
3. What inspired you to start a label?
I was tired of chasing acts with “streaming history” when I was working full time as an A&R at other record labels and after seeing how hard it was for artists to get into the industry especially back in 2018, I wanted change and to form a community to support artists at the beginning stages of their careers without all of the suits and ties.
4. Does your label have a sound or a mission?
The sound is a modern take on my column when I was a music journalist at Dazed Digital called “top ten feels of the month” which is still heavily in the world of sensitive experimental R&B and dance music.
5. Tell us about your scene(s).
When you’re here you’re family.
6. What's your A&R process?
It’s pretty straightforward now that b4 is completely mine without being affiliated with a bigger label. If the demos make me feel some type of way and the artist is open like minded, then let’s try to put it out together.
7. What labels do you look up to?
I’m obsessed with the way Tom at Local Action has been sustaining throughout the years without compromising and the need to scale up and just making it work and making it work really well!
