It would be hard to think of a more perfect Best Songs participant than Jubilee. From rap to rave to dancehall to Miami bass, the Brooklyn-via-Miami DJ and producer always seems to know what to play and when to play it. And it just so happens that her label and party series Magic City is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, which kicked off with a great new single from Jubilee herself. You can listen to Jump Start and read ten of Jubilee’s favorite songs for hyper-specific situations below.

Best song to listen to while watching lizards sunbathe on a rock?

“Daylight Ravings” by Jubilee

I wrote “Daylight Ravings” for this exact scenario tbh. If you listen to it it sounds exactly like this.

Best song for mature raving?

“Days Go By” by Dirty Vegas

Basically knowing this song proves your age. You just DO NOT remember it if you are a little younger, no matter what the internet is giving. Not yet anyways.

Best song to listen to while you are stuck in traffic on the BQE?

“Move Bitch” by Ludacris

Over and over and over again. And also his entire discography since he has other songs that say Move.

Best song for intentionally clearing the dancefloor?

“The Macarena (Bayside Boys Remix)” by Los del Río

Every time I try and clear the dancefloor, whatever song I choose just seems to make everyone stay. I have tried to play “The Macarena” before at 5:30 a.m. and that just resulted in everyone doing it. I think next time I will try the national anthem. Seems to be a good way to make people look for the emergency exit.

Best big beat song?

“Higher State of Consciousness” by Josh Wink

The GOAT of all songs.

Best bloghouse song?

“Hustler” by Simian Mobile Disco

Which I still play in my DJ sets. I also think it depends on what your version of bloghouse is. But this one is it for me.

Best Miami bass song made after 2000?

“Red Bottoms” by Trina

“Red Bottoms” really ate that. The perfect song.

Best song to play for a room full of dancers who are annoying you in one way or another?

“Beat That Bitch With A Bat” by Blackman

“Beat That Bitch With A Bat” is usually what I play when someone is annoying me. But the runner up is if men are being men … which can happen, and if they are bro-ing up the dancefloor scaring the hos, I play "Short Dick Man" and let me tell you how fast they disappear and how it works every time … while everyone but them is overjoyed.

Best song that makes you feel like you are in England even when you are not?

“Original Nuttah” by UK Apache with Shy FX

“Original Nuttah” gets me every time. It's like a portal.

Best song for feeling cozy at home?

“New Forms” by Roni Size and Bahamadia

I think I have played this song so many times in my life, since I was a teen until now, that it's just the cozy anthem for me. I probably have not listened to a song more than this.
