1. Name: Mariana Cosío aka Bluecommand
2. Location: Mexico City
3. Can you tell us about this track?
This track's name is “Apofenia” because in the near past and in this year I've met people in the electronic music context. It has been a crazy time to know so much talent and people. It is amazing.
I think this track is the result of a bunch of feelings and connections with people that are rare to feel sometimes, but in a good way. This track will be included in my next EP in October of this year on the Mexican label WVWV.
4. What's your process?
It can vary. There are moments where I feel so much energy and inspiration. I’m kind of anxious the days after I attend an event here in Mexico city. Maybe it is because I'm too sensitive and interacting with music helps me to process the intensity of the euphoria.
Recently I've taken advantage of it. In the days after an event, I sit down and produce anything that evolves at the moment. My last EP "Sinergia" was produced that way in the past year.
I also produce when I'm feeling down, and the result sometimes is ambient music. It really calms me down in a cathartic manner. Key events have been Etapp Kyle at Discos Movimiento, Ediciones Tecpatl, Roza Terenzi, seeing Sama Abdulhadi and Stimming, just to name a few.
5. Can you tell us about your scene?
I can tell that it is giant. There is a lot of talent. Sometimes I think that if it wasn't for music I wouldn't have crossed paths with so many beautiful people.
I can perceive that the scene here is kind of grouped in little circles sometimes because of the generations of musicians, artists, collectives, labels, and nightclubs. But at the end I can tell that they've all collaborated at some point. Maybe that is what also makes this city have so many incredible community events every weekend.
6. Who are your biggest influences?
I think the music I heard when I was younger, like EDM, House, Pop, 80s music, alternative, psych—music with emotive melodies and vocals.
When I was 12-16, I listened to artists like A-trak, Guru Josh Project, Kink, Benny Benassi, Deadmau5, FloRida, Swedish House Mafia, Tame Impala, M83, and more.
Later, like 2-3 years ago in the pandemic times I discovered ambient music, like Rival Consoles, and found that it calmed me down in difficult times. Recently strong influences are Paurro, Viiaan, Julia Toporek, Alo, Ranma Entero, Ruiseñor, Never Forget, KOI and Octoptic, just to name a few.
7. Who's your favorite artist on Nina?
Turning Torso, I identify with what he does like in a microhouse and ambient/experimental, ambiental manner. Very inspiring.
8. Any shoutouts?
Yes, I would like to thank Turning Torso for introducing me to Nina. Also I would like to thank to some people, collectives and labels that have supported my project and I've been lucky to collaborate with such as: Julia Toporek, Paurro, Basho, Valeriana, Seli, EXT, Ineffable, Discos Sentimiento, WVWV, Colectivo Sin Presión, Casa Caos, Techné Collective, Ranma Entero, Seagit Arc, Von Krup, Kodemul, 13muchachos, Larmour, Kalcagni.
