Braille is the moniker of the Brooklyn-based Praveen Sharma, who is both a purveyor of juicy house, techno, and ambient-adjacent music and a full-time Apple engineer. In addition to having a very cool two-pronged professional life, Sharma is a kind of synth wizard. He knows his way around hardware, and the tracks he makes as Braille are fizzy and coiled. “Cloud Monger” is a rainbow of fun, anchored by an almost Aphex-y attention to detail. There’s also a B-side here called “Sandra Bullock’s Backyard,” which opens with what Google tells me is a sampled line from a 2012 comedy called Alter Egos. The track is a kind of retrofuturist dance floor anthem—the Moog Subharmonicon meets layered 808s meets wacky B-movie quotables. Is there anything this guy can’t do?
