Cube, the moniker of NY (formerly Bay Area) based musician Adam Keith, returns with his new album Office Music, exclusively for (and seemingly about!) Nina Protocol. Following the path laid by his previous records on Helm’s Alter and SF reissue juggernaut Superior Viaduct, Office Music is a collection of of noisy, post-industrial instrumental miniatures. Keith comes out of the aughts American noise scene and these pieces are fully within that lineage, minimal yet blown out drum machine begins to recall Dread era Wolf Eyes but verges into slightly funkier territory occasionally (anyone remember Occasional Detroit?). What’s nice about Keith’s style is that it’s fidelity agnostic, at times wallowing in the 4-track mire that sounds like it could have easily been recorded in the 80s and then making a 180 toward hi-fi VST glimmer only really possible in the last decade or so, staying true to his aesthetic roots while never letting it hold him back from a possible future.
