Trusted sources have told me that Djrum is one of the best DJs in the game right now. I’m going to have to take their word for it, though, since I rarely leave my room. “A Tune For Us” is the artist’s new release, and it exists away from the dancefloor. It’s a jazzy, orchestral tune, with piano, cello, and drums done up in an odd time signature. The devil is in the details here: The minor breakbeat flourishes, the glitchy textures that hover around the track. For whatever reason, it puts me in an IDM state of mind: Aphex’s piano works on Drukqs; Squarepusher at his jazziest, circa Music Is Rotted One Note. Under Tangled Silence comes out next month on Houndstooth, and if this tune is any indication, it should be a nice listen.
