I first got hip to DOLO2k via his production. The LA-based artist has worked with an international consortium of collaborators, everyone from Wakefield, England’s Pretty V and DAV1D to rising cloud rap icon YhapoJJ. His latest project allows the listener to grasp his versatile vision. DOLO2k is a budding audio auteur whose beat-making background lets him combine a number of genres: plugg, jerk, and even a little jungle.

There are a lot of great collaborations on this album, such as the Loudming co-produced “sprayed za,” where Dolo flexes his Ballhog Records jersey, and the following track, “dreamers,” where Dolo and BHR member 3300GRIM alternate rapid flows with lush, slurred Auto-Tuned bliss. But some of the best moments are when Dolo2k makes space for himself to create in isolation. The last three tracks are like pull-ups from deep, with “harmony” functioning as a blissful heat check. The song recalls 2018 Shittyboyz-type beats in the best way possible, except here the listener is gifted with a negative space to sink into.
