In contrast to her homespun debut—2020’s acts of rebellion—the second record from the Colombian electronic artist Ela Minus feels decidedly big screen. DÍA sees Minus gesturing towards pop while still holding onto a sense of DIY play; there is a constant push and pull between melody and more dissonant impulses. In spirit, the record hits notes that might remind certain listeners of Swedish legends The Knife, which is to say that this is a sophisticated set of music that balances a command of texture and rhythm with an eye towards songcraft. “BROKEN” is an anthem good enough to power a SoulCycle class. “QQQQ” could get a warehouse rave going. Closer “COMBAT” is downright rain-smudged. A holistic set of 10 tracks from an artist growing with their music.
