FLOCO comes from England and makes music that, in many ways, reflects the long history of British folk, though that influence is cut with enough disparate ingredients that her output sounds anything but traditional. It’s a melding of space, texture, and songcraft, with proportions shifting depending on the song—or even the timestamp. Like the soil is her new two-tracker, the artist's first for the label LOFS. The titular track is anchored by an ethereal vocal, which weaves in and out of instrumentation and field recordings. “Lapwing” is even more numinous, a canny melding of melody and sonic grain that never sacrifices one for the other. A musical walk through the foggy woods.
