Introducing Nina Japan, a collection of eleven releases and interviews with artists from across the Japanese underground. This hub is curated by Masahiro Ueda aka DJ Healthy, founder of Will Records, and promoter based in NYC and Tokyo, responsible for Sustain-Release Tokyo and Pacific Mode.
DJ Healthy's selections, as well as his interviews with each artist, offer a window into the modern Japanese underground, which he characterizes as one focused on small scenes and intimate venues across the country. “The music scene in Japan is huge,” he said, “but also small and very localized at the same time.”' The independent spirit propelling the experimental and leftfield artists featured on Nina Japan leads the artists to make “unique art,” in DJ Healthy's words.
