Where are you based?
Montreal, CA. The land of slumber.
Can you describe your label mix?
Composed entirely of AB exclusives, we've tried to connect all the perspectives of our label into a single point of view in the hope of creating an accessible introduction to our universe.
What inspired you to start a label?
audio bambino first started as an excuse to make art. An attempt to visually represent all of our shared musical tastes in a colorful and personal way. Finding inspiration in many different mediums such as games, cinema, and comics brought us back to our early epiphanies and became a fertile ground for creation, curation, and friendship
AB is also a COVID baby, so we tried to create a viable and nurturing environment for it to grow up in this post-whatever era.
Does your label have a sound or a mission?
AB is the sound of trying to bring down the walls and unlock the cages that separate the great Dance Mother from her micro-genre babies. It’s sort of a rescue mission. Will there be a reunion? Maybe not. People will continue to fight and argue, but for Mother's sake, let's have fun and enjoy what we've got!
Most importantly, and on a less silly note, we just want to provide a cool space for weirdos and outcasts to call home, give exposure to new faces (or avatars), and inspire playfulness. We live in a Lego world, baby!
Tell us about your scene(s).
We don't have a scene per se, as we deal with a various cast of online producers with different musical backgrounds from all over the world. We are trying to get more things happening at home in the hope of getting more locals involved.
In a perfect world, we'd have all our producers in the same city, so we could create more events and giant potlucks! Nevertheless, our platform is our attempt to fill these geographical gaps ;)
What's your A&R process?
Aside from having some peers from our circle on board, we mostly roll with online demo submissions. We don’t like to run after artists, we just want them to be excited. Most of our music is distributed through Soundcloud, Bandcamp and CD Baby.
What labels do you look up to?
Club Late Music, Club Paradiso, Dismiss Yourself, Transatlantic, Year0001. We also grew up on Hessle Audio, Hyperdub, Night Slugs, to name a few.
