Stark and uncompromising, aloisius’ ‘falling rocks, angry’ arrives without context. Like the lunar monolith from 2001: A Space Odyssey, we encounter it already-formed. Also like that monolith, this project emits a series of sounds that might scare you off, on first listen. “hope for the future {or something}” is a gusty blend of percussive noise and feedback—not quite as harsh as latter day Merzbow or Wolf Eyes, but just as abrasive. The furious drum crescendo toward the end of “A New Day” wouldn’t be out of place on a black metal track, and “rillo size,” the opener, leans hard on fraying electronics. These craggy, alien qualities are what lend falling rocks its power.
