The founder of the label Modern Obscure Music, Pedro Vian’s own experimental music output operates in a mode that is not dissimilar to his curatorial vision. It disregards the strict parameters of genre in favor of a more expansive approach. His fourth solo album is guided not by style but by feeling; it’s a meditation on the state of the planet, at different points urgent and plantitive, always a bit hypnotic. On the record, collaboration abounds—select tracks feature, among others, Asia, Raül Refree, and Pierre Bastien—which embeds the final product with textures that help to, however obliquely, bring home Vian’s message of environmental awareness.
