The polyrhythms of Chicago footwork are pliable enough to meld with genres of music that, geographically speaking, exist worlds away from the land of ice, snow, and loaded hot dogs. On Paraguay 2050, Paraguayan producer Qetsy uses the style as a base to explore various forms of gonzo, hyperactive dance music. The most exciting music here has a distinctively South American flair. The album’s title track, for instance, manages to merge elements of Baile funk, jungle, and footwork into a cohesive, feverish workout. This is music for movement, which always has a way of connecting the ancient and the futuristic.
