The New York-based artist Taraneh Azar’s newest record, which was co-produced with James Duncan and engineered by Grant Lepping, is a burst of forward-thinking bedroom grunge that pushes and pulls on the genre’s foundations while still delivering the damaged goods. There are flecks of everything from goth to trip hop to dream pop here, but it’s all connected by a strong sense of songwriting—as it happens, the word Taraneh means “melody” or “song” in Farsi. Guest turns from Lucy (Cooper B. Handy) and Evanora:Unlimited only help to strengthen the record, which was executive produced by Kris Esfandiari (King Woman). We were able to catch up with the artist to talk about her new record and more, you can check out that video here. New Age Prayer is out now on Kiss Me I’m Famous.
