Tomatoes grow from pretty yellow flowers. Isn’t that lovely? And isn’t that a lovely thing to name a band after? I think so. Fittingly, the band who call themselves Tomato Flower make bright and juicy music befitting of such a moniker. Tomato Flower hails from Baltimore, and their new album (out March 8 on Ramp Local) is called No, which is cool because “no” is a great word that can be both simple and not simple all at once; so much can be found in those two letters. “Temple of the Mind,” from No, is a sweet little pop song—I say little because it’s under two minutes—that’s catchy enough to leave you wanting more and confident enough to not have its brevity questioned. It’s like a straight line with a squiggle through it. Timeless pop harmonies with some teetering psych! Like a straight-petaled flower that might pop out a round red fruit at any moment!
