I am aware that as someone over the age of 30, I am in no way, shape, or form qualified to say if a particular band has “aura.” That is purely the domain of the zoomer. With that said, untitled (halo) is a band with strong aura. There, I said it. Did I say that right? What do you want me to say? I am a washed millennial. I might fuck around and watch The Office with my girlfriend.

Anyway, in a crowded field of contemporary shoegaze, untitled (halo) songs have a little extra sauce. And what is this sauce I speak of? When talking about their new single “that’s honey,” I’m talking about disaffected dual vocals, trip-hoppy breakbeats, and acoustic guitars; they combine to make the track kick-flip in slow-mo. But I’m also talking about that unquantifiable mystery many mention when talking about the band—one that manifests visually as much as sonically.

Music has the ability to move beyond language and into the realm of the celestial. You don’t need a title when you have a halo.
