Name: Violeta West

Location: Paris

Can you tell us about this track?

My first “official” release from 2016, filled with anger but also a hint of malice. I sometimes enjoy making powerful and dry club tracks.

Whats your process?

I don’t have a specific process established at the moment. I work with Logic using basic sound banks (which I used to find fun but has become more frustrating than playful lately) and a few samples here and there. However, I plan to expand my sound resources and try my hand at doing edits (not necessarily for a release, but to better understand extensive sampling).

Can you tell us about your scene?

I would say I don’t belong to a specific scene; I have always navigated through various environments. When I started as a DJ, I was close to the scene revolving around Hotel Radio Paris, and later on, the one around Rinse France.

Who are your biggest influences?

From an electronic standpoint, I would mention Luke Vibert, Hudson Mohawke, the entire footwork scene (Dj Rashad, EQ Why, RP Boo, etc.), the Baltimore scene (DJ Class, TT The Artist, Rod Lee DJ Technics, DJ Benny Stixx, etc.), Anz, Príncipe artists, Lil Silva, but also Frank Zappa, Gonjasufi, Haruomi Hosono, M.I.A., Stevie Wonder, and many, many others, of course!

Any shoutouts?

A big shoutout to the Paradoxe Club crew (De Grandi, Sunareht, Le Dom, and Birol) and Yeeooss from Land Arts Label for their encouragement. Shoutout to Explity Music for including me in their first release, “The World Blurs,” this year!
