When Meme Fossil first reached out to us, they sent a message with the same title we've given this post. Their outreach expressed concern about humanity's short-term approach to living -- when the bottom line on quarterly balance sheets takes priority over longterm planning for climate change, even when failure to prepare for the latter means global existential crisis.

Alas, we live in a culture of immediacy, when short-term gains win elections and we ignore the rest. It's easier that way, for now.

Meme Fossil is challenging that culture by envisaging their music through the 22nd century, imagining what archaeologists will find in the remnants of earth death from the stories found on the internet.

It's a dystopian take on ancestral futurism, where the blockchain preserves our histories but there are no humans left to read them. It's also a call to action, so that we might learn from our long arc of history and plan for the future with a similarly enduring gaze.

A shared ethos around long-term thinking and collective context inspired them to reach out to us at Grey Matter. That same spirit provoked an interest in posting their first release to Nina. To keep focus on the "matter" that is central to their art, they've requested to maintain personal anonymity.

This is the only place on the internet where this song exists in its entirety. In the future, there may be community utility attached to this release.
