The thing about Zohra Atash of Azar Swan, previously of Religious to Damn who currently performs mononymously under the name Zohra, is that she is an angel of a human. However, I absolutely do not mean that in a Christian-y way: The title track of her solo debut, Murder in the Temple features Lydia Lunch herself spouting just about every bit of sacrilege in the book, and also the album is literally called Murder in the Temple. Zohra is the type of person who, if you’re throwing a party but realize you don’t have a PA system or a DJ controller, will drop everything to furnish you with a whole-ass setup and provide a tutorial on how the whole thing works, simply because that is the kind of person she is. (I speak from experience here.)

And yet! Murder in the Temple as an album is all synthy, low-end menace, counterweighted by Zohra’s airy vocals and the pulsing urgency typified by the best works of industrial, goth, darkwave, what have you. I’m tickled as a mason jar full of pickled okra to be presenting you with her latest video off the album, for the track “Gospel Dirt,” featuring animation by the artist Nate Turbow. It’s good. Watch it or else.
