3. Can you tell us about this track?

“Hawwá” was conceived as a piece that moves between multiple rhythms and genres trying to blur the boundaries within club music. The track is providing a particular voice and vision of how I currently perceive and experience dance music in the spaces and environments of Mexico City.

4. What's your process?

The process used in this piece was based mainly on a collection of field recordings and samples that initially had a logical narrative for me. Later, with the help of a DAW (Ableton Live), I carried out processes of granular, subtractive synthesis and some other sound design processes on the sounds already collected. At the same time, I developed rhythmic structures that give movement to the track, generating a narrative, thus reaching the result that you can now hear.

5. Can you tell us about your scene?

Currently I perceive that in Mexico City the electronic music scene, especially around more independent electronic music, has grown in recent years hand-in-hand with some festivals and local parties. Similarly, the number of independent labels has increased over the years, as well as the number of events.

However, it still feels quite small and limited, since the number of spaces to explore new proposals, especially for locals, is subject to the amount of resources available from the organizers and also to the number of people who want to attend.

I believe that the music scene in Mexico is huge. However, in relation to the independent and experimental electronic music scene, we are still at a very early point, with much to support and develop.

6. Who are your biggest influences?

I’ve had many influences to reach this point in my production and in relation to the sound that I constantly seek, but if I could mention any projects that undoubtedly modified my perspective in relation to spatiality and sound, these projects are Radiohead, Olafur Eliasson, Autechre, Amon Tobin, Perila, Carmen Villain, and Caterina Barbieri
