The 37th release of katharsis is the debut EP "Blå Forandring" by Danish artist Johan Jøker, coming out on November 17th. The title of the EP, which translates to "blue change" signifies the artist's intention to create a sonic backdrop for the effects of current climate changes on the vast ocean, which he achieves through collages of samples and field recordings mixed with the melancholic pads and abrasive stabs of his synths.
Across the five tracks, the artist aims to depict various perspectives and aspects of the climate crisis, including collapsing glaciers, the overconsumption of modern society, and fish polluted with plastic, but concludes the EP with a romantic and yearning depiction of the sea on the final track "Vandkorn". When showcased live, the performance takes on an almost ritual character as Johan Jøker brings a jumble of elements connected to contact microphones including washed-up buoys, an electric kettle and a bowl of water as well as a hydrophone.
All money coming in on this one will be donated to oceana.org <3
