Gloorp is the project of the producer, drummer, and engineer Garrett W. Burke. Though Burke has sat behind the kit for indie bands Mothers and Of Montreal, Gloorp is a decidedly electronic affair. It has the polyrhythmic frenzy of footwork and the electro-shocked intensity of digital hardcore and noise. There is a drummer’s hand at play here, clearly, and it helps to push the artist’s influences into a space that moves beyond pure reference. Very little programming on this thing! In its combination of rhythmic ingenuity and cutty sound design, Gloorp ‘Em Up feels not unlike many entries into the Orange Milk Records catalog. A dome-rearranging Friday listen.
