Kieran Daly has seemingly invented his own guitar vernacular. The artist’s signature playing style, one focused on a monophonic approach to guitar manipulation, is not exactly like anything else in the game. He is shredding, in his own way, on his own terms. The two 20-minute pieces here are named after the process and processing of Daly’s guitar—”ICTUS PHASE DELAY MONOPHONY WITH SLEW LIMITING” and “THREE-VOICE PHASE MODULATION AND PANNING SCHEDULE (QUASI-TUTTI)”—and have a harsh, synth-like sonic quality that is at once jarring and jovial. This is one singular axeman!
