Lloydfears might be currently based in Berlin, but UK-bred artist's song “Selling engl*nd” is four minutes of British reality music. Over crackly, barely-there production, the vocalist chats “pure shit about everything we do to pay the rent.” Am I tripping, or do I hear a bit of a Ratking influence here? Ratking were an undersung New York rap trio, perhaps best remembered as the vehicle that helped launch the career of the rapper Wiki. As a unit, though, they traded in a noisy, grime-inspired blend of New York rap, one whose influence seems to continue to fan out into the world. Or I may be tripping indeed. Either way, “Selling engl*nd” is an intense slice of textural, post-genre British music—a go for fans of that recent Iceboy Violet & Nueen record.
