The second album released on Jeffrey Joyal’s titular label Jeffrey Records opens with “Now You Know,” a haunting blend of strings, whispers, screams, and Gothic choirs that could easily serve as the score for a ‘Nosferatu’ reboot. The track pulls you into an uneasy ambience that’s eventually filtered into a low pass and bleeds into a form that’s easier listening and back in style—the indie rock-style track, “Evening of Light.”

UK Brad, a project by artist Bradley Kronz, member of Stubborn, traverses a lot of ground in à la une (2023)’s four tracks, three of which stretch beyond seven minutes. “Rosemary,” perhaps the standout song of the bunch, illustrates Kronz’s ability to challenge the listener with minutes over distorted bass and guitar enveloping one another before waves of sheer noise cascaded over me and I was left with a beating drum. The space fills with instrumentation as Kronz sings about choosing an eternity of everything falling apart and he yells out “is it always like this?” as the beat ceases to be.

I had to hit Google to understand what the title meant. You should do that too. Then tune in and get chuffed for UK Brad.
