Emmett S. Webb is a self-proclaimed SoundCloud rock musician who cut his teeth in garage pop band Goodbye Honolulu before venturing off on his own last year. While the Toronto-based artist’s more recent releases veer in the direction of anthemic Y2K-era electronic pop rock, “Wake Up (Here)” strips things back but keeps the autotune. The song’s melancholy vocals drape over acoustic guitar as tension builds towards distorted bliss, while its accompanying music video—directed by frequent collaborator Aidan Barnes—follows WEBB as he sings to himself and the sky above, all while walking across a cement bridge. Things take a turn (literally) as he’s flipped upside down during the song's climax, performing to the lake below.
