Movement Landscapes is Mervin Wong’s soaring epic exploring organic simplicity of the everyday to expansive electronic sagas. The composer weaves us through a daydream of these vast, hypnotic worlds. The LP release will be introduced via six features: shadowbloom single and music video, Peeling Layers EP, Points single, Gentle but Generative EP, Speculations EP and Heartstring Waltz single.
Fresh from recent releases such as the eclectic Late Bloomer (2022) and A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Original Theatre Soundtrack) (2023), the approach for Movement Landscapes is a cosmic one where the Mervin Wong embraces his affinity with the art of movement. These pieces include several of the composer’s scores for contemporary dance with Singaporean company Frontier Danceland, and music-movement collaborations with UK- SG based artist Chantel Foo, and butoh practitioner XUE.
The composer has taken an immersive approach to the LP - Movement Landscapes has been mixed in Dolby Atmos and Spatial Audio - taking advantage of this format to bring a depth of dimensions to the listener, available on selected streaming platforms.
“Some of these pieces come from very contrasting styles - I wanted to bring together the inspiration I had working with movement into a singular realm in sonic form with ample space for each piece to breathe and expand, encouraging deep listening, where the listener can flow through these different landscapes at their own time and imagination.” - Mervin Wong
Genre and form meld together in synergy with Mervin Wong’s music. Featuring both movement and musical collaborators, such as Malaysian-SG based producer and DJ rEmPiT g0dDe$$ as well as Rudi Osman (A Vacant Affair), Movement Landscapes is an exploration of simplicity, in the many moments of the everyday around us, seemingly mundane, but containing multitudes.
