Can you tell us about this track/release?
“Un niñato en mi cama” was born as part of the music I composed for a fashion show at Madrid Fashion Week for Javier Guijarro. During the process, I discovered some sounds that excited me, and from them, I created this song. That’s why, in some parts, it might remind you of store or runway music.
For me, it’s the most fun, experimental, poppy, and catchy song I’ve made so far. I love that it has the most plays and I really enjoy performing it live. It’s part of an EP that I’m very proud of (AAAaaahhhhh!!!!) and I feel it defines me as an artist. It’s the song I always show when someone asks what kind of music I make, so it made a lot of sense to present it. :)
What's your process?
I always start the same way: I usually begin by distorting and experimenting with some old voice recording I have on my iPhone until I find interesting textures that allow me to develop unique percussion or sound design. From there, I create my own synths and percussion. I prefer not to use many pre-existing samples; I much prefer creating my own sounds to give my music a unique identity. However, if I do use samples, I try to choose clichés or typical ones from a specific genre, like a classic “ha hit” from ballroom or a legendary dembow loop from classic reggaeton, although I always end up experimenting and creating variations of them.
My process is quite linear. I don’t usually get stuck because when I start getting tired of a project, I make new versions of it, just keeping my favorite elements. This way, I find new formulas that I like better, until I arrive at a version that I’m passionate about.
Tell us about the scene in Barcelona.
Barcelona is a city full of musicians, DJs, artists, and local talent, where people from different places come together and create really cool and interesting synergies. There are collectives, clubs, and parties offering an amazing variety, with events every weekend that are greatly appreciated. In this sense, Barcelona is a very musical city, and electronic music is ever-present.
I have to say that I don’t know as many music producers here as I would like—perhaps there aren’t as many as I thought. However, there are Catalan artists worth listening to, such as Ouineta, Mainline Magic Orchestra, LANAV, Marina Herlop, Llum, Asra3, Kora, Bikôkô, AINES, Meritxell de Soto, ETM, and Desert, among many others that I surely forget hahahah.
Who are your favorite local artists?
Without a doubt, my favorite is Marina Herlop. I believe her work is completely timeless and will endure over time. She has a truly unique sound, with her music showcasing a blend of musical production, experimentation, vocal technique, harmony, and piano—all wrapped in a beautiful visual aesthetic that I feel defines her. I’ve had the chance to meet her a few times and have some conversations, and I must say that she also inspires me a lot on a personal level. :)
Who are your biggest influences?
Smerz, Arca, James Blake, Thom Yorke, Hudson Mohawke, SOPHIE, New York, rusowsky, León Cordero, Nina Emocional, ishi vu, Sevdaliza, Jamie xx, FKA twigs, blotter, M.I.A, FFX, Catnapp, Isabella Lovestory, Thom Yorke, Nicolas Jaar, LCY, Miss Bashful … And many more hahahah, everyone inspires me in a certain way. :)
Any shoutouts?
Shotouts to my friends, to Alvaro Delgado, to Clara and Berner, to Ada Music, and to finish, to my parents and my tieta. :)
