Could you tell us a bit about this track?
Koi Failure: “Farewell” is a very emotional track for us. The beginning of the track was sitting as a demo on a dusty hard disk for a while, and when we heard about Nina we decided to work on it. It’s built upon constant anticipation, which we find very important in our tracks and also in our individual lives; anticipation and growth.
What is the scene like in Turkey?
We mostly perform in Istanbul's underground music scene. It mostly involves electronic music, but still welcomes all kinds of genres. The Istanbul scene is a highly helpful and collective scene. For years we saw a lot of people helping each other and doing their best to create safe and equal spaces; trying to be stronger together.
How does the scene affect your process?
Sometimes we might think of the audiences or venues while we compose. We don't know if this is about the scene or our anxieties, but this idea sometimes restricts our creativity. But these worries always lead to growth. They make us listen more and understand more. We search for new and authentic sounds to compose; we find spaces that are not compromising. We know that both musicians and listeners who belong to this scene love music and enjoy new and authentic things.
What are some of your influences?
Musicians both local and around the world influence us a lot. Playing and creating around motivated people definitely excites and influences us. Experimenting with ourselves and stretching our comfort zones motivates us. Things that we experience, read, listen and see, and, of course, because we're a duo, we influence each other.
Anything else you want to add?
We are happy to be involved in Nina Turkey Hub, thanks for making it accessible for us!
