For his first new material in over a year, New York-based Clark Sondermann’s project Pleasure Systems has released a Christmas single. It’s called “Merry Christmas.” Though a press release states that the self-reflective tune isn’t “quite a Christmas song,” Sondermann could’ve fooled me. Featuring background vocals from May Rio, “Merry Christmas" is a snug pop rock track anchored by acoustic guitar and sprightly synth arpeggios. It’s not hard to play out the indie rock Hallmark movie in your mind as you listen, and I say that as a compliment. It’s a taste of new music coming from Sondermann, who has been busy in the studio with the producer Ivan Berko. I’ll see all you New Yorkers at the Dyker Heights Christmas Lights in a few weeks.
